A component of the Longshots program is focused on baseball-specific physical development.  The Longshots have a close working relationship with two physical therapists specializing in baseball strength, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. The therapists, Brynn Nahlik and Ryan Mertz, have designed a strength and development program exclusively for Longshots Baseball after extensive research and consultation with other baseball and strength experts.  The program is includes both in-season and out-of-season periods, and has different exercises and routines specifically for pitchers and for position players.  The program was designed for high school-aged baseball players and, in addition to overall strength development, focuses on exercises that are specifically designed to strengthen areas that commonly see injuries in baseball, including the rotator cuff, labrum, bicep, and elbow.

 

Both our fall program and winter development workouts include physical development components.  The therapists often come to work with the players at the winter workouts as they go through their strength workouts.  Our fall program pitching and position player development sessions include strength and development activities on a weekly basis.

 

All strength and development activities within the program are specially tailored to promote functional baseball strength, which is different than football strength or overall strength.  Our current and past players have had great experiences working with the program and speak very highly of how it helped prepare them for collegiate baseball.
