Slugger recently released its 2011 freshman All-American team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball. Two former
Longshots from the Class of 2010 team were named first team freshman
All-Americans by Louisville Slugger.
Mike
Gerber, a center fielder at Creighton, was named to the team. Gerber, a second team Missouri Valley
Conference selection, hit .281 with 8 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, 23 RBI
and 6 stolen bases. He started 50 of his
52 games, and was flawless in the field, making no errors in 112 chances.
Jeff
Zimmerman, a first baseman and designated hitter at Northern Illinois
University, was also named an All-American.
Zimmerman was named the Freshman of the Year in the Mid-American
Conference (MAC). He hit .326 with 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 47 RBI and
started 55 of his 56 games.
